Batroxobin은 Batrops atrox Maranhoa의 독에서 추출한 트롬빈-유사 단백질 가수분해 효소입니다. 이것은 피브린의 Aα 사슬에서 16번 Arg과 17번 Gly 결합을 절단하여 fibrinopeptide A를 방출하여 피브린 I 단량체나 Des-AA 단량체를 형성합니다. 이렇게 형성된 단량체는 fibrin I 으로 자발적으로 응집합니다. Batroxobin은 또한 내피세포에서 tPA의 방출을 유도합니다.

피브리노겐에 특이적으로 작용하며, 혈소판의 본래의 기능에 영향을 주지 않으면서 혈소판이 풍부한 혈장을 응고시키는 능력과 트롬빈 저해제에 대해 반응하지 않기에 batroxobin은 혈액 응고 연구 및 진단 연구등에 활용되고 있습니다. Batroxobin은 혈장에서 피브리노겐을 확인하고 혈장 내 응고시간(Reptilase time)을 측정하는데 사용될 수 있습니다. 또한 혈전용해치료를 받는 환자(dysfibrinogenemia)를 검사하거나 혈소판 수축 시스템을 테스트 하는데 사용합니다.
